Dutch Profiles are short documentaries about architects, graphic, product and fashion designers in the Netherlands. Containing interviews with both well-known and upcoming Dutch designers, Dutch Profiles focus on their conceptual approach, their work process, and the context of their projects. The series includes movies featuring Rem Koolhaas, MVRDV, Herman Hertzberger, Wim Crouwel, Jurgen Bey, Irma Boom, Hella Jongerius, Daan Roosegaarde, Jan Taminiau, Iris van Herpen and Alexander van Slobbe.
From 2009 till early 2013, a total of 96 profiles were produced by Submarine for the DutchDFA programme, with an editorial board consisting of Jose Teunissen, Gert Staal, Huib Haye van der Werf and Christine de Baan. The videos are available worldwide in low-res via www.dutchprofiles.com, www.arttube.nl, and on the designated YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/user/DutchProfiles). High-res versions are available for use as part of lectures, exhibitions and business presentations. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you're interested.
Now that the DutchDFA programme has ended, the video series has become part of the collection of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, which publishes it on ARTtube.
The Dutch Design Fashion Architecture (DutchDFA) programme aimed to strengthen the international position of Dutch design, fashion and architecture, by building long-lasting international partnerships, while addressing issues facing today’s world through design. The four-year strategic programme (2009-2012) took place in a selection of focus countries (India, China, Germany and Turkey).
The Dutch Ministries of Education, Culture & Science, Foreign Affairs, and Economic Affairs supported this joint public-private initiative. Involved were the sector-specific organisations Premsela and Netherlands Architecture Institute (now together in The New Institute); professional branch associations BNO, BNA, BNI, and MODINT; and the Dutch creative hubs of Amsterdam, Arnhem, Eindhoven, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht.
